Margaret seems to lack a good/complete family. In the excerpt it is clear that she is not really seen by anyone. It also seems like she doesn’t necessarily want to be seen by the strangers, but rather seen by her family. The text states, “she saw the boy bend down and kiss… that top of his sister’s head… she became so dizzy she was forced to drop her head…” This helps to show how lonesome Margaret is. She yearns for a completely family and family love so much so that seeing this sign of affection from brother to sister made her dizzy. This also can help readers infer more about her past. We can may the conclusion that she has never had a family love that was proper such as the love she witnessed at the beach. Words that would describe Margaret is lonesome, unwanted, and that she is yearning (for a complete family).
